1. WHEN TED APOLOGIZED TO NEW YORKERS FOR THEIR LIBERAL POLITICIANS
In one of the many GOP debates, Ted made an honest acknowledgment of Donald Trump’s New York Values, or more specifically, his big government, anti-constitutional, pro-abortion worldview. This should not have been controversial. Anyone from New York knows exactly what a New York value is; even more so if they’re a part of the area’s conservative minority. De Blasio, Hillary, Trump and every godforsaken celebrity you can think of know that New York City is a highly regulated beacon of liberalism with a hypocritical, ultimately empty insistence on “diversity” and “equality” that applies to everyone but those wishing to exercise the rights outlined and protected in our founding documents. As predicted, liberal New Yorkers were shocked, outraged and offended at the radical notion that they live in a blue city while people with brains rolled their eyes and moved on to substantive issues. When pressed for an apology, Cruz gave a sincere apology to New Yorkers…for the failed leadership of their Democratic politicians. It was by far one of his finest moments.
2. WHEN TED CALLED OUT THE LIBERAL MEDIA
In one of the earlier debates, the moderators were particularly outrageous, and seemed to be more invested in inciting discord among candidates than grilling their policies or records, and Ted Cruz noticed, and called them out for it.
3. WHEN TED CALLED DONALD A SNIVELING COWARD
The fight for the nomination got particularly nasty when an anti-Trump PAC tweeted a scandalous photo of Melania Trump from her GQ spread with a caption suggesting that Heidi would be a better First Lady than her — and call me crazy, but I’m inclined to believe that a management position at Goldman Sachs more adequately prepares someone for FLOTUS than a career of posing, walking and pouting. But what do I know. Despite the fact that the PAC was unaffiliated with the Cruz campaign, the Donald then retweeted a meme showing a picture of Melania side by side with an unflattering picture of Heidi, essentially calling Heidi ugly. He also threatened to “spill the beans” on Heidi, which many speculated meant bringing up her struggle with depression. Ted wasn’t having it…at all.
4. WHEN HE ANNOUNCED CARLY FIORINA AS HIS RUNNING MATE
For months I and many other Cruz supporters had been convinced that Carly Fiorina would be the ideal running mate for Ted. She was smart, sharp and articulate and had extensive knowledge of business. Her addition to the ticket also would have been a tremendous asset in the California primary, but I’m going to stop talking about that before I start crying. The day Ted announced Carly as his pick for VP was another testimony of what a dynamic, pragmatic campaign he ran.
5. WHEN HE WON THE CPAC STRAW POLL
6. AT HIS MILLENNIALS RALLY AT CPAC
There was a Millennials for Ted rally at CPAC on a particularly cold, windy day in National Harbor, with a line that wrapped around a building. Only a fraction of the people in line could fit in the venue. I witnessed firsthand Ted’s appeal to millennial voters and how much he had motivated them and excited them about the election. He could barely get through a sentence without a chant breaking out. Honestly, it was surreal. The clip below is a snapchat from the rally, when he’s talking about an episode of True Blood that featured a Ted Cruz fundraiser.
