Wordy Wednesday: Believe In Yourself

image

Like the vast majority of people my age, I’m constantly overwhelmed by my fear of incompetence and failure in almost every aspect of my life. Will I ever genuinely get my shit together and live up to my potential and my parents’ expectations? Will I ever stop being lazy piglet and have a nice body again? Will I ever have an actual boyfriend that I like and that likes me or will I have to choose between settling and being single? Will my sorority ever be what I want it to be? This week, for Wordy Wednesday, I chose the theme of Believing In Yourself, because I know I’m not the only person that needs to hear this.

“If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.”

– Paul Bryant

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

– Anaïs Nin

“A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her.”

– David Brinkley

“I’m not old enough to play baseball or football. I’m not eight yet. My mom told me when you start baseball, you aren’t going to be able to run that fast because you had an operation. I told Mom I wouldn’t need to run that fast. When I play baseball, I’ll just hit them out of the park. Then I’ll be able to walk.”

– Edward J. McGrath, Jr.

“Your value is the product of your thoughts. Do not miscalculate your self worth by multiplying your insecurities.”

 – Dodinsky

“You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.”

 – Michael Jordan

“Believe in love. Believe in magic. Hell, believe in Santa Clause. Believe in others. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. If you don’t, who will?”

– Jon Bon Jovi

“We all have our limitations, but when we listen to our critics, we also have theirs.”

– Robert Brault

“A gold medal is a nice thing — but if you’re not enough without it, you’ll never be enough with it.”

– From Cool Runnings

“If you are going to doubt something, doubt your limits.”

– Don Ward

“Only as high as I reach can I grow,

Only as far as I seek can I go,

Only as deep as I look can I see,

Only as much as I dream can I be.”

– Karen Ravn

“Learning too soon our limitations, we never learn our powers.”

– Mignon McLaughlin

“It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.”

– Edmund Hillary

“It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.”

– Hanoch McCarty

“Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place. Have faith in your own abilities, work hard, and there is nothing you cannot accomplish.”

– Brad Henry

“Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered — either by themselves or by others.”

– Mark Twain

“What a man thinks of himself, that it is which determines, or rather indicates his fate.”

– Henry David Thoreau

“We have to learn to be our own best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies.”

– Roderick Thorp, Rainbow Drive

“Faith that it’s not always in your hands or things don’t always go the way you planned, but you have to have faith that there is a plan for you, and you must follow your heart and believe in yourself no matter what.”

– Martina McBride

“How often in life we complete a task that was beyond the capability of the person we were when we started it.”

– Robert Brault

“Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstance.”

– Bruce Barton

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t — you are right.”

– Henry Ford

“If I could give one tip for people – it’s not an exercise or nutrition regimen. It’s to walk your talk and believe in yourself, because at the end of the day, the dumbbell and diet don’t get you in shape. It’s your accountability to your word.”

– Brett Hoebel

“Every day we slaughter our finest impulses. That is why we get a heart-ache when we read those lines written by the hand of a master and recognize them as our own, as the tender shoots which we stifled because we lacked the faith to believe in our own powers, our own criterion of truth and beauty. Every man, when he gets quiet, when he becomes desperately honest with himself, is capable of uttering profound truths. We all derive from the same source. There is no mystery about the origin of things. We are all part of creation, all kings, all poets, all musicians; we have only to open up, to discover what is already there.”

– Henry Miller

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t — you are right.”

– Henry Ford

“But the real secret to total gorgeousness is to believe in yourself, have self confindence, and try to be secure in your decisions and thoughts.”

– Kirsten Dunst

“Other people’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality.”

– Les Brown

“We are like the little branch that quivers during a storm, doubting our strength and forgetting we are the tree — deeply rooted to withstand all of life’s upheavals.”

– Dodinsky

“The light of starry dreams can only be seen once we escape the blinding cities of disbelief.”

– Shawn Purvis

“Your success depends mainly upon what you think of yourself and whether you believe in yourself.”

– William J. H. Boetcker

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.

You’re on your own.

And you know what you know.

You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

– Dr. Seuss

“If you believe you can make a difference, then you will make a difference. Believe in yourself, your family and your community and you will win.”

– Lindsay Fox

“If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.”

– Author Unknown
