As corny and delusional as I’m sure I sound, getting fired from my job was one of the biggest blessings in disguise I could have ever asked for. It was an enormous wakeup call not only in what I’m actually passionate about, but the habits I need to knock if I’m ever going to reach my potential.
WORK OUT 3X A WEEK MINIMUM
An active body and an active mind go hand in hand. My former boss is a workaholic if there’s ever been one and would go days on end without sleeping at times, yet always finds time to go to the gym. If a man responsible for 30 employees can make time for that, I can too.
WORK ON MY BLOG/BRAND EVERY DAY
I’m not sure where I first heard the phrase “be obsessed or be average,” but I’ve seen firsthand the truth to this mantra. One of my old coworkers was absolutely obsessed with work. As he was a newer employee than most of us, we chalked it up to the honeymoon phase at a new job but as we got to know him it became clear that he had a zeal for our work that frankly outmatched the rest of us. It would be 3am on a Saturday and he was talking about a work project while the rest of us were having a chugging contest. As much as I believed in what I did, I wasn’t obsessed. And it’s time for me to find work that I can eat, sleep and breathe because I’m naturally that excited about it.
LIMIT DRINKING TO WEEKENDS
I drink a lot. Like…almost on a daily basis. And I don’t feel bad about it, but it’s a waste of time, money and calories. I’d be much better off working towards my 1, 3, and 5 year goals on week nights, focusing on my professional and personal ambitions than drinking myself retarded on a nightly basis with nothing to show for it but a gut and a whole in my wallet.
1000 CALORIE LIMIT PER DAY
I want to lose weight, but more importantly, I want to harness discipline, will power and self control that can be translated into every aspect of my life.
WATCH INFORMATIVE VIDEOS & DOCUMENTARIES INSTEAD OF MINDLESS NETFLIX BINGES
Instead of rewatching The Office, Bob’s Burgers, and It’s Always Sunny in different rotations, I’m opting for documentaries, vlogs, etc. that will help me grow as a person and a professional. There is so much free information out there that goes unnoticed and unappreciated as we immerse ourselves in meaningless routines, and we cheat ourselves in this process.
ASKING MYSELF HOW I CAN BE BETTER ON A DAILY BASIS
Entrepreneurs are people that are constantly thinking forward and upward; even when things are good, they’re wondering how they can improve and outdo themselves. This is a mindset that is constantly challenging a person to think innovatively, proactively and in the abstract.
WAKE UP EARLIER
There are only 24 hours in a day, and we should make the most that we can of them. Imagine how much someone could accomplish in the hours between the hours of 5am and 7am after their bodies adjusted to it.
