Handmaid’s Tale Proves The Hypocrisy of Liberal Women

The Handmaid’s Tale is a book turned Hulu series that liberals just can’t get enough of these days. It depicts a dystopian theocratic dictatorship in which women are property of the state, reduced to incubators and sex slaves. Protestors are mowed down by the government and people are shot down while trying to leave “Gilead” (formerly known as the northeastern United States). Homosexuals and anyone opposing Gilead’s strict doctrine are publicly executed. So it’s basically exactly like America on January 20th, 2017. I too, remember the martial law enacted immediately after Trump took the presidency and women being rounded up like cattle. I too, remember the celebrities and 17 year olds that tried so desperately to make good on their threats of moving to Canada if Trump was elected, but faced the penalty of death if they dared try. The last month of pride parades also obviously never happened.

I won’t spend the time explaining that this dystopian future actually reeks much more of the collectivism promoted by the left than the individualism (ideally) promoted by the right, because it’s already been done perfectly. It also doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand the willful delusion or unhinged hysteria necessary to forge parallels between the Haindmaid’s Tale and Trump’s America. So what is it that I want to talk about?

On the off chance we’re even acknowledged in the first place, conservative women are often portrayed as weak sheep. We’re bimbos and idiots whose views are nothing more than a byproduct of internalized misogyny. Liberal feminists are the tough, empowered badass babes that are pushing progress forward.

If that’s the case, why has one man’s election reduced them to squawking conspiracy theorists? How have they managed to imagine that they live in a world two steps behind Republican sponsored Sharia law? They’re blaming Trump for everything from their herpes outbreaks to their overeating.

Conservative women and liberal women live in the same America. If what liberals call “women’s issues” actually were women’s issues, and were as threatened by the Trump administration as the left claims they are, conservative women wouldn’t be immune. But while liberal women have been in the fetal position for 9 months (ironically enough) skipping work and wallowing in self pity over a lost election conservative women have been living their lives, doing their jobs and actually proving everything that feminists claim.

From Kellyanne Conway to Karen Handel to Nikki Haley to my friends in DC and Texas and New York, conservative women are killing it. Conservative women are getting shit done, and not asking for pats on the back or special treatment because they’re women. While liberal feminists are pretending that they live in an oppressive dystopian regime and comparing themselves to sex slaves, conservative women are actually doing the dirty work of proving just how strong, competent and capable women can be.

I’ve been in a pretty bad mood all week and unfortunately can’t blame it on my period, but nothing quite puts anything in perspective like thinking about the fact that a year ago today I was fired — and it ended up being one of the best things that ever happened to me even though at the time I obviously didn’t feel that way, and I didn’t feel that way 4 months later still being rejected by every job after job.

And looking back, I don’t know why I had such little faith because in so many situations you see the same theme.

I couldn’t be happier to not have ended up with any of the clowns I made emo away statuses about on AIM in high school or subtweeted in college lol

Rejection & disappointment — whether from friends, baes, colleges, or employers can destroy us in every sense of the word, but they can also be some of the best opportunities we’ll ever have.
